Parkersburg, IA was devastated by a tornado in May. This ESPN footage shows the devastation and how the town came together along with NFL alumni to get the football field ready for fall. This may sound like messed up priorities but the school and the sports are the heart of the town.
My computer at home won't allow me to upload the video, maybe it's too big, so just click below. It's worth watching.

The Learning Goes On
Lots of cool tools. Love RSS feeds but now I have to read or at least glance at all of the information that's pouring into my reader. Like Delicious and hope to have time to organize my favorites and desktop at work and at home. The operative word there is "time". Sharing documents should prove useful at some point. As long as I remember it's there. I am going to take some time at home to try wiki for my personal use sometime. I'll let you know if I get it done and how it works.
Fickr looks like a never ending dig for fun things to do. If you've got Flash on your home computer or work go to http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2008/09/06/us/20080907-wpa-iowa-map.html#. I'm not sure they actually used Flikr to build this site but I'm pretty sure it's possible. Only a few states available to click on so far but sounds like they're going to progress through all of them eventually. NY Times staff were in Iowa this summer, including my hometown of Marcus. They just happened to see a sign about our fair and stayed a couple of days. Just click on the towns with the little icons by them and turn up your speaker.
Now we need a session on time management so that we can organize ourselves to take advantage of some of these tools.

Wikis
Another useful tool that doesn't sound like it would be too hard to set up. A link to a wiki on the library's homepage looks like an easy way to do a community bulletin board and announcements of library events. It would be easy for anyone to change and update.
As I was reading about Wikis, I thought about all the emails the "Meylor Women" are sending back and forth trying to plan our trip to North Carolina. A wiki sounds like a great answer. Everyone could add their flight schedules and we could add our lists of what we want to do besides just sit on the beach or the deck and watch the ocean. Might have to try it out but I didn't see anything here that would help me do that. Are there examples of places where you can set up a wiki? Did I miss something in the links to information provided or just not understand what I was reading?
